Date-Night-In: Cheeseboard
2:36 PMSince we live in the boonies, going out on a regular date night can be hard. Not only are babysitters often hard to come by, we have to travel a significant distance just to get almost anywhere. So we have had to get creative, which usually means we do date-nights-in pretty frequently.
Brett went to scout camp a while back. I thought it would be fun to plan a little date night for us at home after the kids went down for bed.
I've been wanting to do a cheeseboard for a date for a while now, so I gathered up some ideas and went to town with the kids. We kind of made a little outing out of it. First we stopped by McDonald's and I let the kids get a kid's meal. Then, we went to the grocery store and picked up some cheeses, meats, fruit, a baguette, and some chocolate. It was nice not trying to cram a regular grocery shopping trip into this outing, and just taking our time picking out a few yummy things and then leaving. The kids were still happy and still had full tummies by the time we left.
After the kids went down for bed that night, I just spent about 5 minutes--sprawling out the food on my butcher block board and spread a tablecloth on the ground in the living room. Then we ate and talked and watched a show together. It was so fun! It also was delicious, required no cooking, and came together so fast. Perfect date night!
