We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend this year. It was spent counting our blessings and enjoying some special time with family--both extended and our own little unit. Brett was fortunate enough to have Friday off as well.
I told him, it was like a nice "vacation" we didn't have to recover from. We had this wonderful break from our day-to-day routines, spent loads of time together--and I don't have piles of laundry or a bare fridge that I need to take care of immediately, like I normally do after coming home from vacation. It was great!
We started the "weekend" off on Wednesday night, where we went to the church and played some volleyball (and when I say I "played", I really mean I embarrassed myself), basketball, and had pizza with some family.
Thursday morning, Brett went and froze his buns off playing in a Turkey Bowl while I snuggled in bed with the kids and watched the Thanksgiving parade and then got to work in the kitchen. Then we enjoyed a delicious feast with Brett's Aunt and Uncle just down the road from us, along with several of his cousins and his sisters and their families.
Friday was spent with more cousins and aunts and uncles. We visited, snuggled newborn babies, watched football, and ate to our heart's content--off of a cheese platter, homemade rolls, and turkey noodle soup.
Everyone is so beyond nice to think of us and include us in gatherings this holiday season. It has really meant a lot to us, with it being our first time so far away from our own families this time of year.

Saturday we lounged around and I was able to get plenty done around the house because Brett was there playing with the kids. Since I got so much done, I even treated myself to a midday nice, hot, uninterrupted bath. Then Brett went to go watch the high school football game, which they won and will now move on to the state championship this weekend!
Church on Sunday was very nice, even though we got there 2 minutes late (which is normal) and there was a missionary farewell and baby blessing, which meant we had to sit in the back row of metal chairs (not normal, since our ward usually doesn't even have that many rows of metal chairs). Kids make lots of noise on metal chairs on a gym floor...oops! That evening we had tithing settlement, and then Brett's sisters and their families came over for hot chocolate. And our brother-in-law made our heads spin with all these great and different ideas on ways we could potentially renovate our house. Now I'm constantly thinking about it, measuring different spaces, and drawing awful looking sketches to try to put things in my head onto paper. It'll probably never come to fruition, but it sure is fun to think about a fireplace in a master suite. Our little old farmhouse currently has neither a fireplace or a master suite. So I'm dreamin'...
