Christmas Books
7:22 PMThis is one of my favorite traditions that we have started as a family. I've started a collection of about 13 Christmas books (and plan to eventually add to it to make 25 total, one for each day of December before Christmas--or even more and some nights can have more than one book). But around 12-13 books has been perfect so far--it can be used to do "The 12 Days of Christmas". This year we did the first 12 days of December, since we left on the 13th to go to Arizona.
I wrap up all the books indivudally, and each night, we choose one (or occasionally two) and unwrap it and read it together as a family. Most (not all) of the books, are Christ-centered, so we are able to remember the true meaning of the Christmas season.
The kids love reading, they have a blast choosing a book and unwrapping it, and it allows us an opportunity for a short little teaching moment each evening, as we talk about the book we chose that night.
Brett and I take turns reading books, and snuggling the kids. Landon is mesmerized by all-things Christmas (it is adorable to see how enchanted he is with the decorations, music, and all things pertaining to it), so doing the Christmas Books Tradition this year has been really fun. I love that this tradition can grow with our family, can be flexibile, is really easy to execute, but is really fun and we all look forward to it.
